About the Role

Roku is seeking a Software Engineer Intern to join its engineering team for an 11-week paid internship at the Cherry Hills Bangalore office, starting May 11th. In this role, you will collaborate with experienced engineers to design and scale login systems that support mobile phone authentication alongside traditional email-based authentication.

This position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with backend systems, distributed platforms, and cloud infrastructure while contributing to initiatives that enhance account security and reduce fraudulent activity.

Key Responsibilities

Support the design and implementation of mobile phone number login using OTP across Roku services.
Enhance account security mechanisms and contribute to reducing fraudulent activity.
Participate in backend development using Java.
Assist in building and maintaining scalable distributed systems using object-oriented programming principles.
Work with AWS cloud services to support reliability, scalability, and performance.
Participate in DevOps and infrastructure activities involving container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes and Istio.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to track adoption metrics and measure the effectiveness of security initiatives.
Monitor account creation trends and analyze data related to mobile authentication adoption.
Help improve onboarding flows by reducing friction during account creation.

Required Qualifications

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Foundational knowledge of backend development using Java or Spring Boot.
Understanding of object-oriented programming principles and software design concepts.
Basic familiarity with cloud computing concepts, particularly AWS services.
Interest in distributed systems and scalable platform architecture.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
Good communication skills and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills

Exposure to DevOps practices or infrastructure management.
Familiarity with containerization or orchestration tools such as Kubernetes or Istio.
Interest in platform scalability and modern cloud infrastructure.

Work Model

Roku follows a hybrid work model where employees collaborate in the office Monday through Thursday, with flexible remote work on Fridays. Certain roles may require full in-office attendance depending on business needs.
