Introduction

Comcast is hiring a C/C++ Junior Developer for its Chennai location. This role focuses on designing and developing software for embedded consumer devices such as broadband routers, gateways, and set-top boxes.

As a developer, you will work on building, testing, and debugging software components while gaining hands-on experience in embedded systems, multimedia processing, and low-level programming.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Development

Design, develop, and maintain software for embedded systems including routers, gateways, and set-top boxes.
Write, review, and optimize code using C and C++.
Work with multimedia frameworks such as GStreamer or FFmpeg.
Analyze system requirements and support software integration efforts.

Execution & Problem Solving

Test, debug, and validate software components to ensure quality and performance.
Collaborate with QA teams to ensure applications meet technical specifications.
Use debugging tools and logs to identify and resolve issues.
Research existing technologies, standards, and competitive solutions.

Growth & Collaboration

Work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
Document technical designs, test plans, and system behavior.
Continuously learn and apply engineering methodologies and best practices.
Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive, and innovation-driven work culture.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
0–2 years of experience in software development.
Strong programming skills in C and C++.
Basic understanding of embedded systems, Linux internals, and hardware-software interaction.
Knowledge of video codecs such as H.264, H.265/HEVC, VP9, or AV1.
Familiarity with Linux command line, shell scripting, and debugging logs.
Experience with version control systems such as Git.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications

Exposure to multimedia frameworks like GStreamer or FFmpeg.
Basic knowledge of hardware debugging tools such as UART, JTAG, or SWD.
Familiarity with debugging and performance tools such as GDB, Valgrind, Perf, or Wireshark.
Understanding of process design, system optimization, and performance tuning.
