Introduction

We are seeking a Software Engineer I to join our Agentic AI Interfaces team. In this role, you will contribute to building and maintaining backend systems that power our web applications, including search, content discovery, and AI-driven capabilities.

You will collaborate closely with senior engineers and cross-functional stakeholders to build scalable, reliable systems while continuously expanding your technical expertise in distributed systems and AI-powered applications.

Key Responsibilities

Distributed Systems Development

Contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of backend services supporting search functionality.
Ensure system performance, scalability, and reliability across distributed environments.

Search & AI Feature Development

Assist in implementing search and AI-related features, including indexing, retrieval, and ranking logic.
Support improvements to search accuracy, efficiency, and relevance.

Integration & Collaboration

Collaborate with engineers, AI partners, and product teams to integrate search and AI-driven capabilities across the platform.
Work with geographically distributed teams, including product managers, frontend engineers, and UX designers.
Participate in cross-timezone collaboration, including coordination with the China team as needed.

Performance Optimization

Monitor system performance and identify bottlenecks.
Apply guided improvements to maintain acceptable query latency and system efficiency.

Continuous Improvement

Learn and apply emerging tools, technologies, and best practices related to backend development, search systems, and AI technologies.

Required Qualifications

1+ years of experience in software engineering, including frontend or UI-focused web applications.
Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript (ES6+).
Experience building user interfaces with React (functional components, hooks, and state management).
Experience with TypeScript and strongly typed components and APIs.
Experience integrating frontend applications with REST or GraphQL APIs.
Working knowledge of automated frontend testing (Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress, Playwright).
Experience using Git and collaborating through pull requests.
Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and modern frontend pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions).
Understanding of distributed systems concepts and SaaS applications.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Full-stack experience with C#, Node.js, or Python.
Familiarity with modern CSS approaches such as CSS Modules, styled-components, or Tailwind.
Exposure to frontend performance optimization techniques (code splitting, lazy loading, memoization).
Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design practices.
Exposure to design systems or component libraries.
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Microsoft Azure.
Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
Interest or exposure to search platforms like Elasticsearch or Apache Solr.
Basic understanding of RAG, LLMs, generative AI, or conversational AI systems.
Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and familiarity with JIRA.
