Introduction

American Express is hiring Software Engineers to join its Enterprise Technology Services team. This opportunity is ideal for early-career engineers who are passionate about building scalable software, solving complex technical challenges, and working on enterprise-grade platforms that support millions of customers worldwide.

As a Software Engineer, you will collaborate with experienced engineers, product managers, quality assurance teams, and business stakeholders to design, develop, test, and maintain modern software applications while continuously learning new technologies and engineering best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Software Development

• Develop, test, debug, and maintain software applications and services under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following engineering standards and best practices.
• Build application components, RESTful APIs, and microservices using modern development frameworks.
• Participate in software design discussions and technical solution planning.

Testing & Quality Assurance

• Perform unit testing, integration testing, and support defect resolution.
• Participate in code reviews to improve software quality and maintainability.
• Support automation of testing, deployment, and operational processes.
• Ensure reliable, scalable, and high-quality software delivery.

Agile Collaboration

• Participate in sprint planning, user story analysis, and Agile ceremonies.
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, QA Engineers, and cross-functional engineering teams.
• Contribute to technical discussions, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across development teams.

Learning & Operations

• Troubleshoot and resolve application issues with guidance from senior engineers.
• Learn and adopt emerging technologies, frameworks, and engineering practices.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps initiatives.
• Assist in maintaining application stability, performance, and operational excellence.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Advanced degree is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts and software design principles.
• Knowledge of Agile methodologies and the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• Hands-on software development experience through academic projects, internships, or professional work.
• Basic understanding of REST APIs, microservices, and distributed application concepts.
• Familiarity with Git or other version control systems.
• Good communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to learn new technologies and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Understanding of relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with application deployment and configuration tools.
• Participation in academic, internship, or personal software development projects.
• Interest in enterprise-scale distributed systems and cloud-native application development.
