Software Engineer I, Data Platform

Role Overview

As a Software Engineer I on the Data Platform team at Abnormal Security, you will design and operate scalable storage systems, batch and stream data processing, and orchestration tools. You will build and maintain core infrastructure that powers data-heavy workloads, providing reliable services to engineering and data science teams while creating tools to simplify infrastructure operations.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design, development, and operation of core components of the data platform.
• Build tools and services to facilitate the adoption and scaling of data systems.
• Automate infrastructure and operations to improve reliability, performance, and scalability.
• Apply GenAI techniques to enhance developer and operator experiences.
• Collaborate across engineering teams to solve scalability and reliability challenges.
• Take end-to-end ownership of projects with guidance from senior engineers.

Requirements

• 1+ years of professional experience in software engineering, specifically in backend, distributed systems, or infrastructure.
• Solid programming skills in Python, Go, or similar languages.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, clean code, testing, and debugging.
• Interest in learning AWS, Databricks, and various database and streaming technologies.

Nice to Have

• Experience with PostgreSQL, OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, Redis, or RocksDB.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Exposure to large-scale or data-intensive systems.
