Role Overview
We're looking for a Frontend Engineer to take ownership of our React Native/Expo mobile app, with a focus on the native layer — JSI, native modules, and the boundary between JavaScript and platform code. You'll work on critical surfaces including push notifications, offline-tolerant scheduling, and chat, stepping in to resolve bugs below the JS bridge in a high-ownership startup environment.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain features in the Expo/React Native app, from UI to native module integration.
- Write and debug JSI/TurboModule and native module code in Swift/Objective-C and Kotlin/Java.
- Utilize AI-assisted engineering (Claude, MCP-based tooling) as a core part of the daily workflow.
- Optimize performance-sensitive flows like list rendering, animations, and cold-start times.
- Implement push notifications, deep linking, and background/foreground behavior.
- Manage Expo SDK upgrades and native dependency compatibility.
- Maintain EAS build and CI/CD workflows.
- Write testing coverage using Jest and React Native Testing Library.
- Triage and resolve stability issues via Sentry.
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional React Native experience, including Expo (bare workflow, config plugins, or EAS Build).
- Hands-on experience with JSI, TurboModules, or writing native modules in Swift/Objective-C and Kotlin/Java.
- Strong TypeScript and React fundamentals with debugging proficiency in Xcode, Android Studio, and Flipper.
- Experience with mobile CI/CD (EAS Workflows, Fastlane) and app store release processes.
- Practical testing experience with Jest and React Native Testing Library.
- Comfort working with REST/OpenAPI contracts and Python/FastAPI backends.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Reanimated, Skia, or native-driven animation libraries.
- Experience instrumenting performance data in Sentry.
- Familiarity with Next.js, React, and TypeScript for web contributions.
