Backend Developer Intern — Python, SQL & AI

Role Overview

CareerMaker.ai is revolutionizing the journey from education to employment by bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world job readiness. We are looking for a Backend Developer Intern with strong programming fundamentals, particularly in Data Structures & Algorithms (DSA), Python, SQL, and backend development. You will work on backend and AI infrastructure, building APIs, designing database workflows, and integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) into production features.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain backend services using Python and FastAPI.
• Develop and maintain REST APIs for application and AI workflows.
• Design PostgreSQL database schemas, relationships, and optimize complex SQL queries.
• Build data-processing, scoring, ranking, and matching algorithms.
• Integrate OpenAI APIs and other LLMs into backend workflows.
• Process and extract structured information from documents using libraries like PyMuPDF or pdfplumber.
• Implement validation, error handling, logging, and performance optimization.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or Engineering.
• Strong understanding of Data Structures & Algorithms (DSA) and complexity analysis.
• Strong programming skills in Python.
• Deep understanding of SQL, relational databases, and schema design.
• Hands-on experience with backend frameworks like FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
• Familiarity with LLMs and OpenAI APIs.
• Comfortable using Git and GitHub.
