Software Engineer II

Role Overview

As a Software Engineer II, Frontend at Chegg Skills, you will own the design, quality, and delivery of features across student- and educator-facing web applications. You will focus on building React/Next.js product experiences, GraphQL-powered data layers, and AI-powered learning features. While this is a frontend-first role, you will have full-stack reach, contributing to Kotlin/Java or Python backend services and AWS infrastructure as needed.

Responsibilities

• Own frontend features end-to-end, including architecture, implementation, testing, and production monitoring.
• Translate product requirements into component architecture and GraphQL query/schema boundaries.
• Debug cross-system issues across the stack, including GraphQL supergraph errors and server/client rendering mismatches.
• Build and validate AI-powered learning features with graceful fallbacks and telemetry.
• Apply security and data-protection practices such as input validation and secure auth/session handling.
• Optimize application performance, focusing on rendering strategy, bundle size, and Core Web Vitals.
• Partner with Product, Design, and Backend teams to deliver high-impact workflows.

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional frontend engineering experience building production web applications.
• Strong hands-on experience with React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
• Working knowledge of web security (XSS, CSRF), performance, and accessibility (WCAG/ARIA).
• Experience designing and consuming GraphQL, REST, and WebSockets.
• Proficiency with client-state management using React Query or Redux Toolkit.
• Strong testing discipline using Vitest, Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright, or Cypress.
• Sound understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
