Frontend Developer

Role Overview

Chumley is an early-stage tech startup building software that gives tradespeople the flexibility and tools they need to focus on their work. We are looking for a Frontend Developer to own our public web presence end-to-end, moving between design, frontend, light backend, and content systems.

Responsibilities

• Designing and building chumley.com from the ground up, from concept to production.
• Building fast, accessible, responsive interfaces in React, TypeScript, and Next.js.
• Owning visual and interaction design using Figma.
• Setting up and maintaining a CMS for non-engineers.
• Handling light backend work including forms, integrations, API routes, and deployment.
• Optimizing for page speed, Core Web Vitals, SEO, and conversion.
• Working directly with the founder to translate business value into a web presence.

Requirements

• 3–5 years building production web frontends.
• Strong proficiency in React and TypeScript.
• Solid Next.js experience (routing, SSR, data fetching).
• Real design ability and genuine CSS skill.
• Comfort with backend tasks like API routes and deployment pipelines.
• Experience with a headless CMS (e.g., Sanity, Contentful, Payload).
• Understanding of web accessibility.
• Comfort working in a small, fast-moving startup environment.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Vue or Nuxt.
• Marketing site or brand work focused on conversion.
• Animation and interaction design.
• SEO experience.
• Testing experience with Playwright, Vitest, or Testing Library.
