Software Engineer, Data Platform Team

Role Overview

The Data Platform team builds and operates the systems that centralize all of Coinbase's internal and third-party data, making it easy for teams across the company to access, process, and transform that data for analytics, machine learning, and powering end-user experiences. As a Data Engineering Platform Engineer, you will build the SDKs, self-service apps, and abstractions that let thousands of pipelines and analyses run without users needing to understand the underlying plumbing.

Responsibilities

• Build clean software abstractions and modular, reusable components to support scaling pipelines.
• Build and maintain data integration and processing SDKs used by data teams and internal services.
• Design and build self-service applications for analysts and data scientists to manage pipelines.
• Build tooling for data security and observability, including access controls, data quality tracking, and lineage.
• Work cross-functionally to consult upstream teams on database structuring and provide downstream users with well-documented data models.
• Convert functional requests from data analysts, ML, and security & compliance into reusable, scalable patterns.

Requirements

• 3+ years of relevant work experience.
• Strong Python or Java backend development skills.
• Fluent SQL for ETL/ELT, data quality, and analysis.
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake, Databricks, or similar.
• General experience working with data systems or data pipelines.
• Working knowledge of git, Linux, and Docker.
• Airflow, BI, and AI tool experience.
