Role Overview
The Python Engineer II builds and maintains backend and system-level features. This role focuses on production Python software, Linux system management, MySQL integration, REST APIs, and virtualization workflows. The engineer is responsible for developing high-quality, innovative, fully performing software in compliance with coding standards while working in partnership with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Provides support to the Engineering team, with a high attention to detail
- Designs, builds, and maintains Python services and APIs
- Works on systems critical to the organization's current and future operations
- Debugs production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack
- Assists with improvement of organizational engineering standards, tooling, and processes
- Participates in the testing process through test review and analysis, test witnessing, and certification of software
- Evaluates codes to ensure validity, proper structure, alignment with industry standards, and compatibility with operating systems
- Maintains an understanding of current and new technologies or programming practices
Requirements
- 2+ years of practical experience building and supporting production software with Python
- Strong Python fundamentals, including object-oriented programming, error handling, testing, debugging, and package management
- Strong Linux fundamentals and confidence working from the command line
- Practical database experience, including schema inspection, joins, transactions, indexes and SQL troubleshooting
- Experience with Git, code reviews, automated tests, and CI/CD workflows
- Proven experience working in a Scrum or Agile software team
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent work experience
