Job Description
Role Overview
The Data Visualization Developer will provide expertise to the Center for Avian Population Studies (CAPS) for the eBird Status and Trends project. The consultant will design, build, and deploy interactive, web-based data visualizations—including maps, graphs, and charts—to communicate complex ecological model outputs to both scientists and the general public.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and deploy interactive, data-driven visualizations using JavaScript and modern front-end frameworks.
- Transform experimental concepts into dynamic, scalable, production-ready implementations.
- Build reusable widgets, components, and support application infrastructure including API integration and state management.
- Contribute to collaborative design work using tools like Figma for wireframes and prototyping.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, debugging, and deployment using Git.
- Develop workflows to convert raw tabular and geospatial data (vector and raster) into web-friendly formats.
- Contribute to generating and deploying vector tiles and optimizing web services/APIs for data delivery.
- Implement spatial query, filtering, and summary features for priority monitoring and decision-support tools.
