Role Overview
You will work on CultureMonkey's core product: an employee engagement platform used by HR teams across 100+ countries. This is not a shadowing-only internship. You will pick up real tickets, ship to production behind feature flags, and own small features end to end. We expect you to work with AI coding tools as a daily driver and be able to explain and defend every line you ship.
Responsibilities
- Fix simple bugs and UI issues
- Build small features (forms, CRUD pages, simple APIs)
- Write and update model, controller, and request tests (RSpec or Minitest)
- Update views, CSS, and JavaScript for minor UI improvements
- Debug issues with guidance from senior developers
- Review pull requests and address review comments
- Write or update project documentation
- Run the application locally, test changes, and report issues
- Learn Git workflows (branching, commits, pull requests, rebasing)
- Participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives
Requirements
- Solid fundamentals in any programming language (Ruby, Python, Java, Go, JavaScript, C++)
- Comfortable with SQL and relational data modelling
- Working knowledge of Git and pull request workflows
- Demonstrated hands-on use of at least one AI coding assistant
- Clear written communication
- Curiosity and ownership
Nice to Have
- Any Rails, Django, or Node.js side project deployed and running
- Exposure to Elasticsearch, Redis, or background job systems
- Open-source contributions or a public GitHub profile
- Familiarity with prompt engineering, AI agents, or building with LLM APIs
