Role Overview
As a Thermal-Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will support the R&D team in developing physics-based engineering models and thermal-management solutions for electronics and high-performance systems. The role involves translating heat-transfer, fluid-flow, and material-behavior problems into practical analytical methods and Python-based engineering tools.
Responsibilities
- Develop physics-based mathematical models for thermal and fluid systems.
- Create Python programs for engineering calculations, parametric studies, sensitivity analysis, and result visualization.
- Model fluid distribution, pressure losses, flow resistance, and heat-transfer coefficients.
- Develop thermal resistance models for heat sinks, cold plates, TIMs, and multilayer assemblies.
- Evaluate deformation, thermal strain, and stress in assemblies.
- Support the development of reduced-order models and digital twins.
- Validate analytical and Python models against CFD, FEA, or experimental data.
- Assist with technical documentation and design summaries.
- Support CAD and simulation activities where required.
Requirements
- Pursuing or recently completed an M.Tech, M.E., or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of conduction, convection, radiation, and thermal-resistance concepts.
- Good understanding of fluid mechanics and solid mechanics.
- Ability to derive engineering equations from first principles.
- Hands-on Python programming experience for numerical calculations and data processing.
- Familiarity with NumPy, SciPy, pandas, and Matplotlib.
- Good technical communication and documentation skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Ansys Mechanical, Icepak, Fluent, or CFX.
- Familiarity with transient thermal analysis and thermal-stress analysis.
- Experience with Git and version control.
- Basic CAD experience.
