Software Developer – BMS / EMS / BESS

Role Overview

We are seeking a Backend Developer to build scalable, secure, and high-performance backend services for our Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) platform. The successful candidate will develop APIs, data processing pipelines, and cloud-native services that integrate with Battery Management Systems (BMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), Power Conversion Systems (PCS), and SCADA platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop RESTful APIs and backend microservices.
• Build scalable services using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Integrate backend services with BMS, EMS, PCS, and SCADA systems.
• Process and store real-time battery telemetry.
• Develop WebSocket services for live monitoring dashboards.
• Design and optimize PostgreSQL database schemas.
• Implement authentication and authorization using JWT or OAuth.
• Develop alarm management and event-processing systems.
• Monitor system performance and troubleshoot production issues.
• Write unit and integration tests.
• Collaborate with frontend, firmware, electrical, and cloud engineering teams.
• Participate in code reviews and software design discussions.

Requirements

• 2+ years of backend development experience.
• Expertise with tools such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, or PSCAD.
• Strong experience with Node.js.
• Strong experience with TypeScript.
• Experience building production REST APIs.
• Experience with Express.js or NestJS.
• Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases.
• Knowledge of asynchronous programming and event-driven architectures.
• Experience using Git and GitHub.
• Experience with Docker containers.
• Familiarity with Linux environments.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.

Nice to Have

• Experience in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
• Knowledge of Battery Management Systems (BMS).
• Experience with Energy Management Systems (EMS).
• Familiarity with Power Conversion Systems (PCS).
• Experience with industrial communication protocols: Modbus, CAN Bus, MQTT, OPC UA, or IEC 61850.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and GitHub Actions.
• Experience with Python or Go.
• Knowledge of time-series databases such as TimescaleDB.
• Experience working with microservices.
