Clinical Data, Imaging & Neurophysiology Intern (DBS Patient Database Project)

Role Overview

Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre is building a de-identified, research-ready digital database of DBS patients. This role involves the meticulous transcription and digitization of longitudinal clinical records, operative notes, stimulation parameters, neuroimaging, and intraoperative microelectrode recordings (MER) from handwritten and partially legible source materials into a structured digital format.

Responsibilities

• Review handwritten patient records and abstract relevant clinical variables
• Digitise records through manual entry and OCR tools, validating output against source
• Structure and maintain data in Microsoft Excel, REDCap, or Airtable with version control
• De-identify records by stripping patient identifiers and maintaining anonymised IDs
• Extract imaging from CDs/DVDs and organise DICOM files
• Organise MER recordings labelled by patient, trajectory, and surgical stage
• Cross-check entries and flag inconsistencies for clinical review

Requirements

• Skills in Data Entry, Medical Records, and Clinical Data Management
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with REDCap or SQL
• Working knowledge of medical terminology to interpret clinical notes and drug names
• Understanding of Data Anonymization and patient confidentiality
• Currently pursuing or recently completed MBBS, nursing, allied health sciences, biomedical engineering, neuroscience, life sciences, or data science
• Sustained attention to detail and comfort with repetitive, precision work
• Available on-site in Mumbai for the full duration

Nice to Have

• Prior experience with OCR tools or transcribing handwritten clinical documents
• Exposure to DICOM or neuroimaging file handling
• Exposure to neurophysiology data (EEG, MER, evoked potentials)
• Prior clinical research or audit project experience
• Additional AI/ML experience
