Role Overview
This role is responsible for creating, managing, securing, and continuously improving Azure DevOps pipelines and related platform governance. The Azure DevOps Pipeline and Governance Administrator establishes pipeline standards, enforces policies, manages repositories and permissions, supports CI/CD adoption, and partners with infrastructure, security, and application teams to deliver reliable, compliant, and automated deployment practices across the enterprise.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, manage, and maintain Azure DevOps pipelines for application, infrastructure, and automation workloads.
- Establish and enforce Azure DevOps governance standards, including pipeline templates, branch policies, approval gates, security controls, naming standards, and repository management practices.
- Manage Azure DevOps projects, repositories, boards, permissions, service connections, agent pools, environments, and release controls.
- Implement CI/CD best practices to improve deployment consistency, automation, traceability, and operational reliability.
- Maintain governance for code promotion, change control, pull requests, release approvals, and segregation of duties across DevOps workflows.
- Partner with security teams to embed secure development practices, credential management, least-privilege access, and policy compliance into pipeline processes.
- Automate operational and administrative tasks using YAML pipelines, PowerShell, Azure CLI, Terraform and platform-native automation tools.
- Monitor pipeline performance, troubleshoot failures, improve reliability, and coordinate resolution of build, deployment, and access issues.
- Document DevOps standards, pipeline patterns, support procedures, governance requirements, and operational runbooks.
- Provide supporting administration for Azure, Microsoft Entra ID, and Microsoft 365 services where needed to enable secure DevOps operations.
Requirements
- 10+ years of enterprise experience with DevOps and administration
- Hands-on experience creating, managing, and troubleshooting Azure DevOps YAML and classic pipelines.
- Experience administering Azure DevOps projects, repositories, permissions, branch policies, service connections, and agent pools.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD concepts, release management, source control, pull request workflows, and deployment governance.
- Experience implementing governance controls, policy enforcement, approval workflows, and audit-ready DevOps practices.
- Hands-on experience with PowerShell, YAML, Azure CLI, scripting, Docker and automation.
- Working knowledge of Azure services, Microsoft Entra ID, role-based access control, and secure access management.
- Ability to collaborate with infrastructure, security, application, and operations teams to support reliable delivery practices.
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing reusable pipeline templates, shared libraries, and standardized deployment patterns.
- Experience integrating security scanning, compliance checks, artifact management, and approval gates into CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Bicep, ARM templates, Terraform, or similar technologies.
- Experience with least-privilege administration, privileged identity management, access reviews, and audit readiness.
- Relevant Microsoft certifications in Azure, DevOps, Security, or Identity.
- Experience producing operational reporting, KPI metrics, and governance dashboards for DevOps platform health and compliance.
