Java Microservices Developer

Role Overview

Join NatWest Digital X as a Java Microservices Developer. This is an associate-level opportunity for a driven Software Engineer to engineer, protect, and operate simple, secure, and effortless digital experiences. You will work in permanent teams responsible for the full software life cycle, from initial development through to maintenance and decommissioning.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of scalable backend services.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, quality engineers, and DevOps specialists to deliver reliable, secure, and high-performing solutions.
• Produce complex and critical software rapidly and of high quality to add business value.
• Work across the full life cycle, including requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, deployment, and operations.
• Perform Run-the-Bank activities including troubleshooting, maintenance, optimization, and incident resolution.
• Implement programming best practices regarding scalability, automation, virtualization, and performance.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience in backend engineering with a focus on APIs, microservices, and cloud-native development.
• Proven experience designing and maintaining backend microservices using Java and Spring.
• Experience building and enhancing REST APIs and developing event-driven solutions using Kafka.
• Experience with the full software development lifecycle, including writing testable code and creating unit/integration tests.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps practices within Kubernetes environments.
• Experience working within Agile methodologies and using development/testing/bug-tracking tools.
• Strong analytical and numerical problem-solving skills.
