Engineer III, Smart Switch Software Development

Role Overview

NETGEAR is seeking an Engineer III to join our Smart Switch firmware team in Chennai. You will develop and maintain embedded Linux firmware for smart switch product families, focusing on the application and integration layers including user-space applications, cloud integration agents, configuration management, and web-based management interfaces. This role involves working on production firmware that ships worldwide and emphasizes the use of AI coding agents to accelerate feature delivery.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain user-space daemons and services including process management and event handling.
• Work on the Insight cloud agent subsystem, including REST API handlers and SSL/TLS integration.
• Enhance and maintain CLI frameworks and configuration database engines.
• Develop and maintain web-based management interfaces using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Implement and maintain SNMP MIB support.
• Perform firmware validation on physical hardware and debug using serial console, SSH, and packet captures.
• Utilize AI coding agents like Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot to accelerate development.

Requirements

• B.Tech/B.E. or M.Tech/M.E. in Computer Science, Electronics, or a related field.
• 4–7 years of professional experience in embedded or systems software development.
• Proficiency in C programming on Linux (user-space, IPC, sockets).
• Working knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, Ethernet) and tools like Wireshark.
• Experience with REST API development, embedded HTTP servers, or SSL/TLS.
• Familiarity with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Experience with GNU Make and cross-compilation for ARM or MIPS.
• Proficiency with Git.
• Active use of AI coding assistants in daily workflows.
