Role Overview
Optum is seeking a Data Science professional passionate about applying machine learning, Generative AI, and Large Language Models (LLMs) to solve complex healthcare problems. You will work with massive volumes of clinical, claims, and behavioral data to build scalable AI solutions, including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems, to deliver accurate and trustworthy insights that improve health outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy advanced analytics, machine learning, and Generative AI solutions using large-scale structured and unstructured data.
- Build and optimize LLM-based applications and RAG frameworks to enable context-aware insights from clinical notes and claims.
- Apply advanced techniques including statistics, machine learning, simulation, and mathematical modelling.
- Collaborate with data engineers to design data pipelines and vector stores for embeddings and efficient retrieval.
- Develop, evaluate, and finetune models using prompt engineering and retrieval strategies.
- Ensure responsible AI practices, including fairness, transparency, and compliance with HIPAA.
- Translate complex analytical outputs into actionable insights for business stakeholders and leadership.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree (preferably in information technology, engineering, math, or computer science).
- Experience with large-scale data processing and advanced statistical techniques.
- Knowledge of responsible AI principles and healthcare data privacy.
