Full Stack Engineer - Java

Role Overview

Optum is seeking an experienced Java Full Stack Engineer to contribute to hands-on development and long-term ownership of critical platform components supporting CMS driven initiatives. This role focuses on building, enhancing, and supporting scalable backend services and user-facing applications, while enabling automation for vulnerability management and incident response. You will work independently on complex problems, delivering high-quality solutions that meet regulatory timelines and operational requirements.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Java based backend services, APIs, and integrations using Spring Boot and related frameworks
• Build and enhance front end components using modern JavaScript frameworks like Angular or React
• Implement CMS driven enhancements, fixes, and compliance related changes within committed timelines
• Develop and integrate automation for vulnerability detection, prioritization, and remediation workflows
• Contribute to AI enabled capabilities for incident triage, root cause analysis, and resolution recommendations
• Own features end to end, including development, testing, deployment, and production support
• Improve code quality, performance, and maintainability while reducing technical debt
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and collaborate closely with cross functional teams
• Provide technical guidance through code reviews and knowledge sharing

Requirements

• Graduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
• Strong hands-on experience in Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and Microservices architecture
• Front-end experience with Angular or React, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases and ORM frameworks
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and cloud-based deployments
• Proven ability to work independently on complex, production-critical systems
