Software Engineer II (AI Governance)

Role Overview

The AI Governance team at Rippling is building a new product category to help enterprises govern AI usage. This role sits at the intersection of identity, access control, model routing, MCP security, data protection, spend management, and auditability. As a Software Engineer II, you will build foundational platform technology that makes AI usage attributable, policy-aware, budget-aware, and auditable at runtime.

Responsibilities

• Build high-quality, reliable AI governance products with meticulous attention to detail.
• Ship incremental improvements rapidly and refine products based on customer feedback.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of MCP access controls, model gateway policies, runtime authorization, audit pipelines, and usage attribution.
• Own ambiguous product and engineering problems from initial exploration through production rollout.
• Use AI-native development practices to increase engineering velocity.
• Collaborate with Product, Security, Legal, and IT teams to deliver customer impact.

Requirements

• 3+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals with experience building reliable, maintainable systems.
• High agency and a bias toward shipping incremental releases.
• An AI-native engineering mindset using AI tools to increase velocity.
• Sound security and systems judgment regarding identity, authorization, and data movement.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
