News Writer Intern

Role Overview

Join the Science news team as a News Writer Intern. This is a full-time 6-month paid internship reporting to the Online News Editor, focusing on reporting and writing for the daily online news site and Science Magazine. The role involves writing 600-800 word stories covering science and science policy, as well as longer feature articles.

Responsibilities

• Write for the daily online news site covering all areas of science and science policy.
• Produce longer news articles and potential feature stories for the magazine.
• Pitch original story ideas and potentially travel for on-site reporting or coverage of scientific meetings.
• Report and write under tight deadlines.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or currently in senior year of college; advanced degree or certification preferred.
• Experience writing about complex science in a clear, compelling, and user-friendly way.
• Preference for candidates with published articles in high-profile news outlets or experience in journalism or science writing programs.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines.
