Software Engineer II - App Core

Role Overview

The App Core team is looking for a curious, growth-minded Software Engineer II to work on the core infrastructure of Smartsheet, focusing on the reliability, stability, and scale of our foundational systems. This role focuses on the intersection of generalist backend engineering and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) within a mob programming environment.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to Core Infrastructure to ensure foundational reliability, stability, and performance.
• Collaborate via Mob Programming, participating as both a driver and a navigator to maintain collective code ownership.
• Manage and upgrade large-scale database infrastructure and complex replication topologies.
• Automate core operations using AWS, Golang, MySQL, Terraform, Temporal, and GitLab-CI.
• Practice Test-Driven Development (TDD) to ensure system resilience.
• Participate in on-call rotations to support operational health.

Requirements

• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language with backend development experience (e.g., Java, Python, or Go).
• Strong desire to learn Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and database internals (MySQL).
• Comfortable working in a mob programming environment and practicing TDD.
• BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.
