Software Engineer

Role Overview

Smiths Detection is a global leader in security and detection solutions. We are looking for a software professional to solve complex technical problems and deliver innovative, scalable, and maintainable solutions. You will work on state-of-the-art technology to protect people and infrastructure across aviation, ports, defence, and urban security markets.

Responsibilities

• Solve complex technical problems and deliver innovative, scalable, maintainable solutions with minimal supervision.
• Implement architectural patterns and design standards in collaboration with key stakeholders.
• Champion Agile and Lean methodologies, fostering continuous learning and iterative improvement.
• Design, code, review, and optimise critical software components and services.
• Drive adoption of DevOps practices, automation, CI/CD, and proactive operational monitoring.
• Embed security, reliability, scalability, and performance throughout the SDLC.
• Promote secure coding practices and serve as a technical bridge between engineering and QA teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 1–4 years of professional software development experience.
• Proficiency in Angular, Java, Spring Boot, Python, or Golang.
• Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks like Jasmine, Jest, Karma, JUnit, or PyTest.
• Hands-on experience with RESTful APIs and microservices architecture.
• Database experience with PostgreSQL and Redis.
• Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and containerisation.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Knowledge of Git, Linux, and Agile methodologies.

Nice to Have

• Experience with gRPC, Kubernetes, Grafana, or event-driven systems.
• Familiarity with ML/AI platforms and UX/UI design principles.
• Knowledge of UML.
