Software Development Engineer - II | Backend (AI POD)

Role Overview

SpotDraft is revolutionizing legal operations with AI-powered tools that help legal teams work faster and smarter. We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join the AI POD—the team building SpotDraft's AI-powered product capabilities, including data/text extraction, contract intelligence, and LLM-driven features. You will design the systems, such as extraction pipelines and RAG architectures, that make AI features reliable and scalable in production.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend systems for AI-powered features with a focus on reliability and performance.
• Own end-to-end system design (HLDs & LLDs) for extraction pipelines and AI feature integration.
• Build and operate data/text extraction pipelines and implement RAG pipelines or agentic workflows.
• Manage reliability and cost-efficiency of AI-integrated systems, including caching and fallback handling.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and AI teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the engineering culture and hiring process.

Requirements

• 4–7 years of experience in backend/software engineering.
• Strong backend engineering fundamentals and proven experience architecting scalable products.
• Hands-on experience with system design (HLD & LLD).
• AI/ML exposure, specifically building RAG pipelines or integrating LLMs in production.
• Experience with data or text extraction pipelines.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, queues, async processing, and caching.
• Familiarity with vector databases and embeddings.
