Software Engineer (L2)

Role Overview

Join the team as our next Backend Software Engineer on the Twilio Segment CDP engineering team. You will build and scale APIs to enable Twilio developers to unlock best-in-class personalized customer experiences through the Twilio Segment CDP products. You will collaborate closely with product management, architecture, and other engineering teams to design APIs, identify performance bottlenecks, and data models, while driving system-level improvements.

Responsibilities

• Design and build robust, scalable backend systems and APIs across Segment’s data platform.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with design, product, and other engineers to define solutions that balance usability, performance, and long-term architecture.
• Communicate technical decisions clearly - articulating trade-offs, customer impact, and team alignment.
• Troubleshoot and improve system reliability, debugging issues and refining operational tooling and processes.
• Participate in an on-call rotation for our managed services.

Requirements

• Experience designing and building scalable backend systems and APIs.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams including product and design.
• Strong communication skills regarding technical trade-offs and architectural decisions.
• Experience with troubleshooting, debugging, and improving system reliability.
