Role Overview
We are an additive manufacturing service bureau looking for a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our team on-site. The Mechanical Engineering Intern will support the design, development, testing, and improvement of 3D printing systems and related mechanical components. This role is ideal for someone who wants hands-on exposure to CAD, prototyping, assembly, and product validation in an additive manufacturing environment. You'll work alongside experienced engineers and technicians, gaining real-world experience across the full product lifecycle—from concept to printed part.
Responsibilities
- Assist in designing and modeling mechanical components and assemblies using CAD software (Fusion 360, or similar)
- Prepare and optimize 3D models for printing (FDM, SLA, SLS, or metal AM processes)
- Support build setup, slicing, and print parameter tuning across various additive technologies
- Help with post-processing tasks including support removal, surface finishing, and part inspection
- Conduct dimensional and functional validation of printed parts against specifications
- Assist in maintaining, calibrating, and troubleshooting 3D printers and related equipment
- Document test results, design iterations, and process improvements
- Collaborate with the engineering team on prototyping and R&D projects
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Working knowledge of CAD software (Fusion 360, or equivalent)
- Familiarity with 3D printing technologies and additive manufacturing concepts
- Understanding of GD&T, tolerances, and basic manufacturing principles
- Hands-on mindset with strong attention to detail
- Good problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work on-site full-time for the duration of the internship
