Software Development Engineer 2

Role Overview

WEX is seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer (Level 2) to contribute to the Helix initiative, a company-wide modernization effort. You will design and build reliable, scalable, and modern services, evolving legacy systems into API-first, modular, and event-driven architectures that support agentic, intelligent systems.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain API and microservice-based solutions.
• Decompose monolithic systems into reusable, composable components.
• Participate in the full SDLC, including design, coding, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
• Contribute to data pipelines, event streaming, and workflow automation.
• Work cross-functionally with product, QA, and DevOps to ensure secure and performant solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 2–3 years of professional software development experience.
• Experience building or consuming REST APIs.
• Hands-on experience with Python, Java, or Node.js.
• Familiarity with event streaming platforms such as Kafka.
• Understanding of SQL/NoSQL databases and data formats like JSON and XML.
• Experience with Git and CI/CD workflows.

Nice to Have

• Experience with microservices or modernization projects.
• Familiarity with AWS, Docker, or Kubernetes.
• Experience with front-end frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue.
• Background in FinTech or payment systems.
