Role Overview
ZYCUS's Ataavi is looking for a Computer Vision / AI Intern who is excited about applying AI to birds, biodiversity, and nature. We are building capabilities that can help users identify birds from photographs and bird calls from audio recordings.
Responsibilities
- Build and improve models for bird identification from images.
- Explore computer vision techniques for challenging real-world bird photographs.
- Work on bird-call and bird-song identification using audio ML techniques.
- Experiment with approaches such as spectrogram-based classification, audio embeddings, multimodal models and foundation models.
- Evaluate existing open-source models and datasets, including approaches similar to BirdNET.
- Create experiments, benchmark model accuracy and identify ways to improve performance.
- Potentially contribute to production features within the Ataavi birding app.
Requirements
- Strong interest in Computer Vision, Machine Learning or Deep Learning.
- Hands-on experience with Python and frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Experience working with image classification, object detection, embeddings, transformers or related techniques.
- Some exposure to audio/signal processing or audio classification would be an advantage.
- Completed a meaningful research project, paper, internship or independent project in computer vision/ML.
- Ability to read research papers and turn ideas into working experiments.
