Product Engineer (Contract)

Role Overview

This is a high-impact contract role for a US-based startup. You will be responsible for taking a working prototype to a production-ready state, closing the gap between a functional core and a polished, user-ready product. You will own the product lifecycle from feature completion and UX refinement to alpha/beta deployment and user support.

Responsibilities

• Finish remaining feature work and refine the product surface.
• Perform aesthetics and UX passes to ensure a professional feel.
• Fix open bugs and expand test coverage.
• Execute security hardening ahead of external user onboarding.
• Ship the product to real users and manage the onboarding process.
• Provide direct user support and instrument the product to track user behavior.
• Translate alpha feedback into a beta roadmap.
• Build systems and documentation to enable future team scaling.

Requirements

• Proven experience shipping a real product using an agentic coding harness (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Aider).
• Strong ability to read and debug complex, existing codebases.
• A dual focus on technical implementation and user experience/instinct.
• A track record of finishing projects and supporting them through to deployment.
• Ability to work independently without a well-defined ticket queue.
