Application Development Intern

Role Overview

Scophix is an early-stage startup building at the intersection of software engineering, AI, and developer tools. We are building a mobile app from the ground up, currently exploring Flutter to capture and analyze application-level activity. As an Application Development Intern, you will work closely with our engineering and product team, working across the app from core functionality to APIs, data handling, and user interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Build core features for a new mobile app from scratch, including its core data-capture functionality
• Work with APIs, databases, and backend services (Django)
• Build and refine user-facing interfaces
• Help figure out the technical approach to a genuinely hard, unsolved mobile engineering problem
• Debug issues and improve app reliability and performance
• Work closely with engineers and product to turn ideas into working features, using AI coding tools (Claude, Codex, etc.) to move quickly
• Write clean, maintainable code and contribute to technical documentation

Requirements

• Strong fundamentals in programming and software development
• Comfortable with at least one modern programming language; exposure to Flutter/Dart, or mobile development generally, is a strong plus
• Comfortable with Python/Django, or able to ramp up quickly
• Comfortable using AI coding tools like Claude or Codex as part of your daily workflow
• Basic understanding of databases, data modelling, and querying
• Understanding of APIs and how different services communicate, including how network requests work
• Some exposure to LLMs/AI tooling is a plus
• Familiarity with AWS or cloud infrastructure is a plus
• Familiarity with Git and basic software development practices
• Comfortable with ambiguity
• Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn quickly
• Good communication and ability to work closely with a small team
