Software Engineer III, Infrastructure, Google Cloud Storage

Role Overview

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. As a Software Engineer III for Google Cloud Storage (GCS), you will work on a planet-scale distributed storage system that manages exabytes of user data, trillions of objects, petabytes of traffic, and millions of queries per second. You will contribute to the Storage Transfer Service (STS), a fully managed service designed for transferring large datasets across various cloud storage sources.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver projects independently. Collaborate with stakeholders and make decisions for the project to land well on time.
• Contribute to the team's design process by writing clear and concise technical design documents for the features you build, outlining your proposed approach and implementation details.
• Invest in building automated benchmarking for GCS client performance for key customer use cases by running tests, analyzing results, and helping to implement code changes that address performance bottlenecks.
• Participate in code reviews to both learn from others and help maintain a high standard for code quality across the team.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code to implement new features and performance improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience with software development or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree in an industry setting.
• 2 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
• Experience with either C++, Go or Java.
