Java Back End Developer (Contract)

Role Overview

Design, develop, enhance, and maintain enterprise applications using Java 17; Java 11 experience is acceptable. Modernize legacy applications by migrating them toward containerized and cloud-native architectures.

Responsibilities

• Develop robust and scalable backend services using Core Java, OOP, Java frameworks, and enterprise development best practices.
• Work extensively with PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimization, stored procedures/functions, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
• Perform database migration from Oracle and other legacy databases to PostgreSQL, including data validation and performance optimization.
• Develop, integrate, and troubleshoot SOAP web services and WSDL-based integrations.
• Work with REST APIs and integrate backend services with enterprise applications.
• Troubleshoot and support Kubernetes-based applications, including deployments, pods, services, configurations, and application issues.
• Build and manage application containers using Docker and support deployment through Kubernetes.
• Work with Git and CI/CD pipelines to automate application build, testing, deployment, and release processes.
• Monitor application health and performance using APM, logging, monitoring, and observability tools.
• Analyze production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement permanent fixes to improve application stability and performance.
• Collaborate with architects, DevOps engineers, database teams, QA, and business stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, design documents, API specifications, and troubleshooting guides.
• Ensure applications meet enterprise standards for security, scalability, reliability, performance, and maintainability.

Requirements

• Proven experience in backend development using Java.
• Strong expertise in PostgreSQL and relational database management.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes for container orchestration.
• Proficiency in SOAP and REST web services.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control using Git.
